The image, extracted from the vast Epstein files released by the U.S. Department of Justice, shows the two British men wearing white bathrobes at an outdoor wooden table in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. American flag mugs sit on the table in front of them. The photo is believed to have been taken between 1999 and 2000, years before Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

The photograph is significant not just for what it shows but for what it confirms. This is the first time all three men have appeared together in a single documented image. It did not emerge from a tip or a leak. It was sitting inside a government archive of roughly three million pages, 180,000 photographs, and 2,000 videos, quietly waiting to be found. In 2009, while Epstein was serving his sentence, Mandelson stayed at his New York apartment. Emails from 2009 and 2010 appear to show Mandelson, then serving as business secretary in Gordon Brown’s government, sharing sensitive government information with Epstein, including advance notice of a 500 billion euro bailout.
